It has been a while

As the title says, it has been a while! My last blog post was in November 2019, and we all know what happened shortly after that...

The break

I had two life changes in one. As well as a global pandemic, I had my first child in 2020. Becoming a parent changes everything and weirdly, you have a lot less time to play escape rooms! I had my second child in 2023, so even less time for escape rooms.

The return

I'm not yet back to the dizzying heights of 2019, and probably never will be, but in 2025 my escape room career resumed (with many thanks to the wonder of grandparents).

I love a good graph, so here's 'My life in escape rooms':

A themed alternative

My primary love for escape rooms lies in the theming and immersion. I get pure escapism from disappearing to another world for an hour and diving into the puzzles and mysteries. I've also always loved theme parks and with a young family, we've all found a common love for the rides, escapism and experiences they offer.

In 2025, theme parks became the activity of choice and we spent so much time as a family there. And yet again, I love graphs - so here's my 2025 in theme parks:

But despite all the time I spend at theme parks, this isn't turning into a theme park blog. It's just going to be a less frequently updated escape room blog!

My plan for the blog

I've been working on the blog again and have a to-do list to get it up and running that I'm starting to work through:
  • Condense the rankings table and make it more readable on mobile.
  • Add the status of rooms (i.e. closed rooms) to the rankings table.
  • Add the status of rooms to past reviews.
  • Update the rankings table with 18 missing rooms I've never added to it.
  • Simplify my ratings to just give an overall rating, rather than breaking down specific elements for all new reviews.
  • Create small summary reviews for my backlog of reviews I never got around to.
  • Create full reviews for my most recently played games.
  • Update my reviews on Escape The Review.
It's going to take me a while to get through this, but I've got a new found motivation with my resuming escape room career!

The next games

So what are the next games I'm playing? At the time of writing I've only got one game booked - Titterton's Toffees at the amazing Escape Quest in Macclesfield. Who knows how many I'll play in 2026 - but let's see if I can beat 2025!
