Review - Howitz v2 - Escapologic, Nottingham

Room Story - from Escapologic A tragic loss. A happy family destroyed. A desperate man, irresistibly drawn to dark forces. As the door slams shut behind you, you're trapped in the world of Eli Howitz, an enigmatic figure whose gut-wrenching story pervades every millimetre of the room. show more.... Just what happened in Eli's toy shop? You've heard the rumours. You know the horror stories off by heart. But how much truth is there in the police report? Can there really be ritualistic carvings on the walls? They say there were glowing symbols, and toys that whirred, clicked, and span on their own... Our resident genius created Howitz after too little sleep and too many disturbing movies! There are scenes of a nature that might upset in here. Of all the escape rooms in Nottingham, this is the one that could cause sleepless nights. If that kind of thing messes with your head, we recommend leaving the door locked on this one. With the clock inexorably marking off the...

Review: The Signal - Make Your Escape, Derby

Room Story - from Make Your Escape Following reports of strange lights in the skies over Derbyshire, your team intercepts a distress signal, which leads you to an abandoned military bunker. Once the door closes behind you, you quickly realise the signal was not all that it seemed, the bunker was not abandoned and you are not alone. Work together as a team to solve the puzzles and escape. The truth is in there… Key Stats Room Name The Signal Venue Make Your Escape Location Derby, UK Date 24/03/2019 Escape Time 56:07 Team Size 3 My Recommended Team Size 2 - 5 Review The Signal was our 6th and final game of our escape room weekend away in the East Midlands. It’s the most condensed period of escape room gaming we’ve ever played as a team – and that really started to show. Our performance wasn’t our finest. There are also some games that really click with you – let's call it “the bond”. When you have “the bond” everything makes sense, you’re confident in ...

Review: Dystopia and Utopia - Make Your Escape, Derby

Introduction This is the first time I’ve written a combined review for two rooms. That’s because it’s the first time I’ve ever played two separate rooms that are set in the same ‘world’ and can be played back-to-back without a break. We played the dark and dreary Dystopia first before heading into the shining white and bright Utopia. So, I’m writing the reviews in that order. Click here to skip down to the review of Utopia. Dystopia Room Story - from Make Your Escape Beyond the great dome of Utopia lies a desolate wasteland. Disease has ravaged the population, resources are scarce and, for those still managing to survive, life is hard. Yet, long condemned to the darkness, the Dystopians have become resilient and determined. No longer will they accept their fate quietly and no longer will the advancements of Utopia benefit only the few. Besides, they've made some advancements of their own and Utopia might just need them more than they realise. Key Stats Roo...

Review: Tommy - Unescapable, Derby

Room Story - from Unescapable We need to test that this portal works properly, we’re pretty sure that it does but we just need to be certain! From what we can gather Tommy has landed somewhere in the midst of the Western Front in 1917. There is a very significant chance/the slight possibility that the portal could break when you go through (but it probably won’t don’t worry) If it does though, don’t panic, your team are just going to have to fix the time portal before the bridge collapses and you’re trapped in the past forever. Key Stats Room Name Tommy Venue Unescapable Location Derby, UK Date 23/03/2019 Escape Time 35:00 Team Size 3 My Recommended Team Size 2 - 4 Review The last time I visited Unescapable, I played the terrifying game Edith. Edith is an experience that combined time travel with horror and good puzzles. Not to mention a terrifying creature that pursued you around the room leaving you in perpetual fear. Aside from being constantly scared, I reall...

Review: Carfax - Cave Escape, Nottingham

Room Story - from Cave Escape Journey across oceans of time as you descend into Victorian England, fearfully held under the cold grasp of something dark... evil... Undead. Key Stats Room Name Carfax Venue Cave Escape Location Nottingham, UK Date 23/03/2019 Escape Time 44:49 Team Size 3 My Recommended Team Size 2 - 4 Review It feels like Carfax is one of those games that everybody is talking about. Whenever we’ve visited any escape room recently, I swear that most of them have mentioned this game and how good it is. That’s why we had to go and play. This game was the 2nd of 6 games on our East Midlands escape room weekend. Cave Escape has a very gothic looking entrance at the bottom of a main road that makes its way out of Nottingham city centre. The window is full of interesting trinkets, and that theme continues as you enter the reception area that’s filled with all sorts of objects and antique looking things. It feels like you’re taking a step back in time. ...

Review: The Enchanted Forest - Break Escape, Loughborough

Room Story - from Break Escape A portal has been discovered that leads through to another world. The realm is under the control of a dark enchantress, and the forest sleeps. Can you wake it, and find a rare blue gem before the enchantress and make your escape?! Key Stats Room Name The Enchanted Forest Venue Break Escape Location Loughborough,UK Date 23/03/2019 Escape Time 49:52 Team Size 3 My Recommended Team Size 2 - 5 Review We had a weekend trip to the East Midlands to take on 6 escape rooms. This was the first game of our trip to get our brains warmed up. Break Escape is situated in Loughborough town centre next to a cinema and restaurant complex. It’s easy to find with cheap parking nearby. We received the standard health and safety briefing and introduction to the room story. One interesting element in this game is that there are a number of side quests that allow you to get crystals that deduct time from your game. The main goal of the game, however, is t...
